In Times Past: The young and the restless

The history of American youth service organizations spans more than 200 years. This column describes that history in New Hampshire and Vermont. These organizations, led by adults, were aimed at young people. Often the main targets were young people who might be at risk — whether to waywardness or exploitation — when outside the home or school. Most organizations of this ilk were started by concerned parents, educators, or pastors.
