Precinct presses town after court ruling

WOODSVILLE—Show me the money.  That was the message from Woodsville officials to the Haverhill Selectboard during a public meeting on Monday night. Last week, the New Hampshire Supreme Court issued its ruling in Woodsville Fire District’s challenge to the state’s invalidation of two warrant articles approved by Haverhill town meeting voters in 2022.

‘Fair queen’ competition in its last days

NORTH HAVERHILL—On a humble wooden stage at the edge of the North Haverhill Fair, three plastic chairs sit arranged like a podium. A small but loving crowd murmurs in the bleachers. Storm compounds erosion in Wells River

WELLS RIVER—Recent storms have exacerbated an erosion problem in Wells River Village. Before the Wells River empties into the Connecticut River, it courses along Main Street before curving behind the Wells River Motel and a nearby apartment building.

CORINTH—Filmmaker Brian Carroll is a collector of stories. Among his recent projects is “Endlessly an Observer,” a documentary short he produced on the life of photographer Suzanne Opton. The film will premiere at the Vermont Film Festival in Woodstock this week.

Vermont rodeo ropes in fans at Bear Ridge

BRADFORD—As a line of cars wended its way along a narrow road for 1 mile, the sultry air hung heavier than the tree branches bending into the road. The bumper-to-bumper queue finally emerged onto the jam-packed Bear Ridge Speedway parking lot. A new event for the speedway, an honest-to-goodness rodeo, brought many from near and far to converge on Kidder Road on July 11.
