As harvest approaches, taking stock of May frost

NORTH HAVERHILL—When a hard frost fell across New England in mid-May, the full extent of damage to the delicate apple blossoms was not evident until midday the next morning. Sheila Fabrizio, of Windy Ridge Orchard in North Haverhill, recalled, “That morning everything was white, and then by afternoon everything was brown.”

Woman shares recovery with Rivendell students

ORFORD—New Hampshire resident Taysa Lynch spoke to Rivendell Academy students on Aug. 31 about overcoming addiction. The presentation, school officials said, helped build upon the school’s summer reading theme of “courage.” As she described her journey, from the beginnings of addiction to sobriety, Lynch grasped students’ attention.

Pharmacy to close next month

WOODSVILLE—Rite Aid in Woodsville will close next month after the retail chain spent a quarter of century in business at its location at the intersection of Central Street and Dartmouth College Highway. The store will close at the end of the business day on Sept. 10.

New restaurant owner fulfills dreams

WOODSVILLE—A Central Street restaurant reopened under new ownership on Monday. Lily Hoang, of Wells River, purchased New Century Chinese this summer. Dreaming of restaurant ownership since she first came to the United States in 1992, Hoang now calls New Century hers.
