In Times Past: Volcanos, bugs among past summer torments

Stories of climate change — heat waves, forest fires, flooding — dominate this summer’s news.  My thoughts turn to historic climate catastrophes local residents endured during warmer months in times past. When particular hardships were frequent, I selected several from before 1970 for reference.
